PROGRAM # 10180

The Farm Bill Limbo.

The deadline for Congress to pass a new five-year farm has passed and, because of the political strife to keep the government open, it may take months to reach agreement on a new bill. Meantime, lawmakers have advanced a number of bipartisan items to set policy and funds for farm, food and conservation programs. How are farm, food and climate programs being impacted? This is a conversation with the author of a bill pushing for smart farming through digital technology, automated operations and mechanization in the fields and retraining impacted workers, and a lawmaker spearheading a bill to help farmers improve soils and deal with the climate crisis.

Guests: Rep. Andrea Salinas, US House of Representatives, D-Oregon, Washington, DC; Rep. Salud Carbajal, US House of Representatives, D-California, Washington, DC; Joe L. Del Bosque, Farmer, Del Bosque Farms, Firebaugh, CA.

Demonstrators Call for an End to Israeli Bombardment of Gaza. Demonstrators around the world are calling for freedom for Palestine, expressing their disappointment with their governments over Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip, most recently against a Palestinian refugee center. In recent days, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Washington, D.C., thousands more in West Los Angeles, California and several dozen at the government center in Fresno, California. This program includes some of those voices calling for an end to the conflict.

Guests: Samai Muñoz, Mexican demonstrator and member of Peace for Fresno, Fresno, CA; Mitzy Esquivel, Salvadoran demonstrator, Los Ángeles, CA.
