FROM PRISONER TO ATTORNEY 鈥 When he was an adolescent, Francis 鈥淔rankie鈥 Guzm谩n was sentenced to 15 years in jail for stealing a car and robbing a liquor store. Now he is an attorney and advocate for juvenile justice, giving talks in schools and youth detention centers. Guzm谩n is also the recipient of a prestigious Soros Justice Fellowship, studying alternatives for sentencing youth who commit serious crimes, instead of punishing them as adults. As part of a series about the school-to-prison pipeline, we spoke with Frankie Guzm谩n on Radio Biling眉e鈥檚 national talkshow L铆nea Abierta, and we present a segment of the conversation.

WOMEN DENOUNCE SEXUAL TORTURE BEFORE HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANISM 鈥 When the current president of Mexico was governor of the state of Mexico, more than 200 people were arrested in the towns of Texcoco and San Salvador Atenco, and according to reports, at least 11 women were raped during the police operations. A representative of the women confronted the Mexican government in a hearing at the Interamerican Commission on Human Rights in Washington, D.C.
