Peace Caravan Comes to Capitol; Stories of Pain; Food as Medicine.

PEACE CARAVAN COMES TO CAPITOL – The Caravan for Peace, led by Mexican poet Javier Sicilia, arrived in Washington, D.C., the last stop. Family members of victims of the war on drug trafficking in Mexico traveled 10,000 kilometers and visited more than 25 cities in the U.S., in an effort to shake this country’s conscience, demanding an end to the war in Mexico. Our correspondent José López Zamorano was there when Sicilia arrived at the Capitol, and he has this story.

STORIES OF PAIN – The travelers in the Caravan were mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers of some of the more than 60,000 people who have died and 20,000 disappeared in the violence provoked by the war on drug trafficking in Mexico. Our reporter Marco Vinicio González gathered some of the testimonies of the Caravan members when they passed through New York City.

FOOD AS MEDICINE - Cardiologist Jorge Bordenave knew that the epidemic of obesity affects the United States first and foremost, and Latinos above all. But he did not realize the enormity of the problem until he began to see a large number of young patients with illnesses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, that used to be considered diseases of the elderly. Bordenave decided then to make a radical change in his life: he studied integrative medicine and began to treat his patients less with pills, and more with healthy foods. On Radio Bilingüe’s national news show Línea Abierta, our news director Samuel Orozco spoke with Dr. Bordenave, who is also the author of the books Change Your Diet, Change Your Health, and   La dieta anti-inflamatoria.
