Democrats say Convention is the Most Open in History; Undocumented Immigrants Arrested Outside DNC; Out-of-State Tuition for Children of Undocumented Immigrants Declared Unconstitutional

DEMOCRATS SAY CONVENTION IS THE MOST OPEN IN HISTORY 鈥 Thousands of Democrat delegates met at their convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, presenting themselves as the party of diversity and tolerance. The Democrats gave unprecedented space to undocumented youth, women, the elderly, and the gay community. Well-known Latino figures such as San Antonio mayor Juli谩n Castro spoke during prime time at the political celebration to crown Barack Obama鈥檚 second nomination to the White House. Jos茅 L贸pez Zamorano reports from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

UN DOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS ARRESTED OUTSIDE DNC 鈥 After touring ten states and stopping in 16 cities, the UndocuBus arrived at the Democratic National Convention, full of immigrants with 鈥渘o papers, no fear鈥, as the slogan painted on their bus announces. There, the riders raised their voices in an act of civil disobedience during which ten immigrants were arrested. The goal? To pressure President Barack Obama to stop deportation policies. Valeria Fern谩ndez reports from Charlotte, North Carolina.

OUT-OF-STATE TUITION FOR CHILDREN OF UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS DECLARED UNCONSTITUTIONAL 鈥 A federal judge decided this week in favor of the children of undocumented immigrants in Florida. The state was charging out-of-state tuition, two or three times higher than resident tuition, to students who were born in the United States but whose parents are undocumented. The court decided this practice is discriminatory and unconstitutional, a decision that could save thousands of dollars per year for the students. With more details from Miami, Javier Aparisi.
