ROMNEY PICKS CONSERVATE RUNNING MATE – Social Security turned 77 years old this week, an anniversary that coincided with the selection of Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan as Republican candidate for vice-president. Ryan has won notoriety for pushing a plan to privatize or eliminate the social network of the country, including health services of Medicare and Medicaid. This proposal sparked national debate on the impact of conservative proposals on the most vulnerable, especially Latinos.   José López Zamorano has more from Washington, D.C.

YOUTH APPLY FOR DEFERRED ACTION – Just hours after the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services putt he application for Deferred Action online, thousands of young “dreamers” filled legal clinics all over the country. Armies of volunteer attorneys helped to fill out applications for undocumented youth to stay in the country for two years without fearing deportation. Marco Vinicio Gonzalez was at a legal clinic in New York and has this story.

VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE IN MEXICO TRAVEL THROUGHOUT U.S. – Victims of the Mexican war on drugs are traveling throughout the United States in a Caravan for Peace, calling to stop the violence that has caused the death of around 70,000 people in Mexico and the disappearance of another 20,000. The Caravan for Peace, headed by Mexican poet Javier Sicilia, will travel through more than 25 cities in the United States. Our correspondent Manuel Ocaño was at the first stop of the caravan, in the border city of San Diego, California.

TESTIMONIES FROM MEXICO’S WAR SHARED – At the second stop of the Peace Caravan, in Los Angeles, victims of the war in Mexico who live in the United States shared their testimonies. Our correspondent in Los Angeles, Rubén Tapia, brings us some of the stories that were shared live, or that are being embroidered on white handkerchiefs that will accompany the caravan.
