Big Win for Romney in Republican Primaries in Florida; Spanish-Speaking Candidate Eliminated from City Council Ballot in Arizona; Death of 9/11 Rescue Worker Causes Controversy.

BIG WIN FOR ROMNEY IN REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES IN FLORIDA - Former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, triumphed in the primary elections in Florida for a Republican party candidate for president. Romney obtained nearly half of the vote, and he came out ahead among Latinos and women voters. Romney and his top opponent, Newt Gingrich, made an effort to reject the image that they are anti-immigrant. In Florida, this task was perhaps easier because the majority of Latino Republicans in the state are of Cuban or Puerto Rican origin. From Miami, Javier Aparisi reports .

SPANISH-SPEAKING CANDIDATE ELIMINATED FROM CITY COUNCIL BALLOT IN ARIZONA – A Mexican-American woman who ran for political office in a border town in Arizona was removed from the ballot for not speaking enough English. The action has sparked criticism among those who believe it obstructs voters’ rights. Valeria Fernández has more from San Luis, Arizona.

DEATH OF 9/11 RESCUE WORKER CAUSES CONTROVERSY - The death of an undocumented worker who volunteered in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero after the September 11th attacks has created controversy in New York. Rafael Hernández died in September, after a decade of illness. The city says his death is not associated with his exposure to toxic dust during the rescue efforts. This provoked indignation among the immigrant workers of Ground Zero, who are fighting for their illnesses to be recognized and covered by the funds of the Zadroga Law, which was passed for this purpose. Marco Vinicio González has more.
