Battle for Majority Latino District in California – A battle for Congress is raising excitement among voters in California’s Central Valley and capturing the attention of national political leaders. It’s the fight for Congressional District 21, a district with a Latino super-majority, where Democrat Amanda Rentería is going up against well-financed Republican Congressman David Valadao for his seat in Congress. If she wins, Rentería will become the first Latina congressperson in the entire Central Valley. This week, U.S. vice-president Joe Biden came to Bakersfield to energize Democrats in favor of Rentería. Our correspondent Rubén Tapia reports from the event.

Protesters Demand Students in Mexico Be Returned Alive – With demonstrations in Mexico, Latin America, the United States, and Europe, thousands demanded the return of 43 students who disappeared last week as they protested in the city of Iguala, Guerrero. Family members and citizen groups accuse the whole police force of killing some students and disappearing many more. The president of Mexico promised to investigate thoroughly. Meanwhile, family members are demanding the governor of Guerrero resign. Vladimir Flores reports from Oaxaca, where one of the demonstrations took place.

Mariachi Maestro Dies – A great maestro of mariachi music has left us. Natividad, or “Nati”, Cano died on October third at 81 years old. With more than 50 years as director of Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, the maestro brought mariachi music to new levels of excellence and helped change public opinion about this musical genre. Throughout the years, Radio Bilingüe had the honor to interview Nati Cano numerous times. Raúl Silva prepared this tribute to this pioneer of mariachi music in the United States.
