PROGRAM # 7502 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

Teachers are visiting towns in the mountains of Guerrero, calling for residents not to vote and even to try and stop elections. Townspeople remember the 43 missing students of Ayotzinapa, that communities have had to form their own police groups to have security, and also that during the floods of 2013, no government aid arrived. “If the government doesn’t help us protect us, what do we want them for?” ask the teachers. This edition also includes sections of the book Los Hijos de los Días, in the voice of Urugayan writer Eduardo Galeano, who recently passed away. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.

Guests: (Pretaped interview) Participants in the community assembly of Acatempa, municipality of Tixtla, state of Guerrero; (Pretaped speech) Eduardo Galeano, Mexico City.
