PROGRAM # 7990 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

Mexican unions join the rallies that farmworkers have been carrying out for 17 years demanding the government to provide social support for the country’s agricultural sector. The demonstrators are asking to halt the rise in the price of gasoline, to revoke the structural reforms and to review the Free Trade Agreement, at a time when there are talks about a possible renegotiation. Additionally, in this edition we will describe 20 years of activism by the Center for Human Rights in Chilapa, Guerrero. Its director presents testimony on the kidnapping of 32 people in that municipality, which occurred in the presence of the armed forces. For its part, the Mexican Congress reports that it will begin the discussion of the internal security law, sent by President Peña, which gives greater participation in law enforcement against social movements to the Mexican Army. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast of the program Voz Pública, from Mexico City.

Guests: (audios) Carlos Moreno, Hipólito Hernández Cruz and Silverio Cruz Mota, from Tezontepec de Aldama, Hidalgo, members of Central Campesina Cardenista; Adriana Hernandez, Juan Sierra Jiménez and Florentino López Martínez, Frente Popular Revolucionario; (live broadcast) Manuel Olivares Hernández, director of Centro de Derechos Humanos José María Morelos y Pavón, Chilapa, Guerrero, Mexico.
