Extra Edition: Lawsuit Over Chlorpyrifos.

Last year, California banned the sale of chlorpyrifos, a widely used pesticide linked to brain damage in children. Now, lawyers for parents who live in Central Valley communities contaminated by the toxic chemical for decades are suing Dow Chemical and its successor Corteva over irreparable damages caused to children. The legal team is searching for farm workers whose children may have been exposed to chlorpyrifos.

Guests: Dolores Huerta, President, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Bakersfield, CA.

The Covid Costs to Farm Workers. A study providing the first state-wide picture of the impact of COVID-19 among Oregon farmworkers, found that farmworkers experienced tremendous hardships as a result of the loss of work and income during the COVID-19 pandemic and yet they were not aware of federal or state relief funds and labor benefits. And while farmworkers suffer increased stress levels, most lack access to mental health services. These and other findings are discussed with members of the research team.

Guests: Jennifer Martínez, MPA, Project Director, Oregon Covid-19 Farmworker Study, Portland, OR (TBC); Others TBA.
