Immigration Edition.

Republican senators blocked a negotiated bill on border security and asylum and immigration changes and gave the green-light for a plan securing military aid to Ukraine and Israel. Meanwhile, after failing to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the House may attempt a new vote soon. In other news, a new national report shows that as soon as asylum seekers and newly arriving immigrants in the US are able to work, not only do they earn money but they also contribute to state and local taxes, and those contributions grow as their wages grow. Also, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott staged a military-style event in Shelby Park and armed right-wing militias from across the US camped out in town, residents of Eagle Pass are calling to get their park and town back. Lastly, a hunger strike at a Washington immigration detention center is spreading, with dozens of inmates raising demands for justice outside and inside the facility.
