Sounds of California. Hour 1.

The power of music and sound traditions to express migration experiences, cultural resilience and community transformation are explored in this special program. The two-hour program features performances and interviews in English and Spanish from traditional artists who headlined a live event at the Oakland Museum of California. The program concludes with a conversation with listeners on the influence of sound traditions in their lives.

Guests: Daniel Sheehy, Director of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings; Ruben Martinez, Author, Journalist and Professor; Vincent Medina, Ohlone Storyteller; Diamano Coura, West African Dance Company; Palabuniyan Kulintang Ensemble, Muslim-Filipino Culture Musical Group; Grupo Nuu Yuku – Danza de los Diablos and Banda Brillo, de San Miguel Cuevas.
