PROGRAM # 10227 12:00 PM PT

Singer Rafael Mendoza.

A conversation with Mexican singer and composer Rafael Mendoza, a recognized troubadour whose repertoire ranges from bolero, blues and Afro-Antillean rhythms to son jarocho and ranchera music. He has performed in festivals and venues around Mexico, the US and Europe. His discography is made up of Mendoza y Macondo, ¿Qué me pasa?, Fin de Siglo and Esta Locura. He talks about his musical beginnings and how over the years he has been embracing sounds and rhythms beyond trova such as norteñas and cardenche singing. He talks about the pleasure he feels when his songs are performed by greats like Eugenia Leon and Betsy Pecanins or street singers who play them on city buses in Mexico City. Inspired by the experience of his father, a Bracero, he also sings about migration to the US.

Guest: Rafael Mendoza, Mexican Singer, Composer and Troubadour, Mexico City, MX.
