In California, Democrats swept the Republican Party in races ranging from the governorship and the state legislature to the U.S. Congress. In Texas, Republican Ted Cruz managed to win re-election to the Senate, but his rival, Democrat Beto O’Rourke, left a legacy of millions of citizens and young people excited and mobilized. In Georgia and Florida, among allegations of irregularities, a vote-by-vote count is being carried out in historic elections that could result in novel victories for two African-American gubernatorial candidates.
