Julián Castro Launches Presidential Bid

Former Obama cabinet member Julián Castro announced his bid for the Democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential elections in his native San Antonio before a crowd of supporters at the traditional Plaza Guadalupe. Castro made the announcement in both English and Spanish after being introduced by his mother Rosie, a veteran social activist. In his speech, the former San Antonio mayor said President Trump has failed on immigration and promised that, as president, he would invest in border security without using immigrants as scapegoats. Castro also proposed a Medicare plan for all, universal preschool and a raise in the minimum wage.
