United States Recognizes Mexico’s Key Role in Solving Migration Crisis

Given the lack of progress in Congress on border security spending in the federal budget, Cabinet members and Democratic and Republican legislators turned their attention to Mexico. They have spoken with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and both Mexican presidential candidates, seeking new commitments to stem the tide of migrants at the border. Both the Biden administration and members of Congress acknowledged that no strategy will succeed without the cooperation of the Mexican government.
