Robotics Club Inspires Latinos to Study Science

Latinos have long been under represented in math, science, and technology careers. Though Latino college students choose these majors in numbers relatively comparable to white students, in the end, they end up graduating with a degree in these fields at a much lower rate. In Phoenix, Arizona, a robotics club is changing this trend. The club has become a hotbed for Latino students, many of them low-income and some undocumented, to go on to graduate from college with degrees in technology, math, and science. Valeria Fernández reports. This feature story is part of American Graduate, Let’s Make it Happen!, a public media initiative to address the drop out crisis, supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
