Intense Battle Over Supreme Court Nomination – President Trump’s rushed decision to nominate federal Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court has sparked an intense ad war and political battle. Republican leaders in Congress are touting the nominee’s professional credentials and readying the confirmation process, while Democrats are calling to block the nomination. They warn that Kavanaugh jeopardizes the protections of the Affordable Care Act and the right to abortion, and question his independence from the executive. Pioneering Mexican Bands Perform at Major Campus – Last spring, dozens of musicians with roots in the indigenous cultures of southern Mexico met at a prestigious college in California for a “friendly musical battle” between indigenous philharmonic ensembles. The bands are part of a popular tradition in the Mexican state of Oaxaca that has flourished in the Los Angeles area over the past four decades thanks to philharmonic maestros from communities in the heart of the Zapotec region. Four of the pioneering bands recently performed at UC Riverside. Our correspondent Ruben Tapia was present and has this report.
