Radio Bilingüe’s Línea Abierta presents special Election Day 2012 coverage

 

Oakland, CA. It’s election time and Radio Bilingue’s Línea Abierta team is preparing a six-hour news coverage on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6th. The extended edition of Línea Abierta will air over the Satélite Radio Bilingüe network and stream online at www.radiobilingue.org. In addition, Radio Bilingüe’s online platform will feature news, photos and podcasts on the election. This coverage is part of our year-long series Hacia el Voto 2012.

Starting at 12 PM PDT, Línea Abierta’s news team will be filing reports on Latino voter turn out, tracking Latino candidates running for national office, and discussing the developments of the day with analysts. Coverage will include analysis from pollsters on voting trends, and comments from election observers, political scientists and civic leaders.

The radio/online programs will be co-hosted by regular host Chelis López and executive producer Samuel Orozco. A team of seasoned reporters will also provide on-site reporting, talking to voters in polling stations.

Following are the program offerings of Hacia el Voto 2012’s special election-day coverage:

Monday, November 5. 12:00 – 2:00 PM PDT. Election Day Eve. This is an extended, two-hour edition featuring stories from news correspondents and analysis by guest commentators.

Tuesday, November 6. 12:00 – 2:00 PM, 6 PM – 10 PM PDT. Election Day. This is an extended, six-hour edition on the battle for the U.S. White House and Congress. News correspondents file breaking stories from battleground states. Guest analysts discuss congressional races and state propositions to watch. Vote observers report on efforts to mobilize the Latino vote around the country, monitor the polling sites, and protect the ballot. Listeners are encouraged to call in to share views and reports. The day will culminate with reports tracking the national election results.

Wednesday, November 7. 12:00 – 2:00 PM PDT. Election Results. This two-hour program brings news on the results of the presidential election, key races in both chambers of Congress, and ballot initiatives. News correspondents file stories with the latest results, analysts provide perspective on the outcome, and listeners are encouraged to call in with comments on the new political landscape.

Hacia el Voto 2012 is a special series funded in part by The Ford Foundation, The Open Society Foundations, The James Irvine Foundation, The Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The Spanish-language talk show program Línea Abierta is aired on more than 70 stations throughout the U.S. and Mexico via Satélite Radio Bilingüe, the community-based radio network.  Radio Bilingüe owns this satellite system and 11 stations in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. The service is also available via webcast on Radio Bilingüe Internet: www.radiobilingue.org.
